The 17th International Architecture Exhibition opened its doors to the public on Saturday, May 22nd, curated by Hashim Sarkis, architect, dean and scholar, who called on architects to imagine spaces in which we can generously live together.
The exhibition includes 112 participants from 61 countries and has been organized into five thematic areas, three are exhibited in the Arsenal – Among Diverse Beings, As New Households, As Emerging Communities – and two in the Central Pavilion: Across Borders e As One Planet. Besides 5 architects contributed to the project dedicated to children’s play exhibited at Forte Marchera, How will we play together.
The Italian Pavilion, in the Arsenale, supported and promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity, is curated by Alessandro Melis of the Heliopolis 21 studio. The set-up in the principle of reuse, recycling and resistance combines thoughts and disciplines, working in the same way as neural connections. In these spaces architecture dialogues with botany, agronomy, biology, art, medicine, social sciences, technology and history.
The projects selected for the exhibition respond to research fields in matters of the environmental crisis, the built environment, health, social pressure, creativity and ecology, following a decalogue divided into 14 thematic sections which follow, in turn, the paths of resistance seen not only as the ability of reacting to traumatic events, but also as the ability to seize the opportunity to find new solutions.
